ASX Tuesday morning: Nasdaq snaps 13-session streak, VIX jumps to 18.87
Monday's US session ended the Nasdaq's 13-day winning streak as the VIX jumped 7.95% to 18.87 on a weekend setback in US-Iran negotiations. Commodities pulled back (WTI -1.75%, Brent -1.26%, gold -0.79%, copper -1.13%), AUD/USD firmed to 0.7178 (+0.14%), and the ASX 200 pre-opens modestly higher off Monday's 8,946.9 close.
ASX Tuesday close: 200 -0.04% to 8,949.4 as HUB.AU sinks 8.33%, defence names lead
ASX 200 closed near flat at 8,949.4 (-0.04%) on 21 April 2026 with wide dispersion under the hood. HUB24 (-8.33%) sank despite solid Q3 FY26 platform inflows; Droneshield (+5.54%) and rare-earths trio Lindian, Brazilian Rare Earths and Vulcan (+6.5% to +9.2%) led gainers. Industrials (+0.47%) and Info Tech (+0.42%) were best sectors; Energy (-1.03%) worst as Brent reversed intraday from US$95.69 to US$89.68 on US-Iran ceasefire-extension headlines. AUD/USD gave back 33bp to 0.7153.
