Wall Street hit fresh records on the extended Iran ceasefire and Tesla/Boeing earnings beats. Brent crude surged above $100 after Iran attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. BHP concluded its seven-month iron ore dispute with China's CMRG. ASX 200 SPI futures point to a weaker open despite the US rally.
ASX 200 falls 50 points as US seizes Iranian tankers in Asian waters — 23 Apr 2026
The ASX 200 fell 50 points to 8,793.4 after mid-session reports of US naval interceptions of Iranian tankers near India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. REG.AU surged 16.4% on Federal Budget aged care funding. BHP.AU rose 1.8% on the CMRG iron ore deal resolution and Q3 production beat. Energy outperformed on Brent above US$98; gold miners and lithium sold off.
