Wall Street hits records on Micron's US$1 trillion leap; ASX 200 set to open lower into CPI day
Wall Street closed at records overnight — S&P 500 +0.61%, Nasdaq +1.19% — led by Micron's 19% jump to a US$1 trillion market value on AI-memory demand. But the rally was narrow (Dow -0.23%, VIX +2.53%), and the ASX 200 is set to open 7 points lower after Tuesday's 0.39% fall, with April CPI due at 11:30 AEST against inflation expectations of 5.9%.

Australian shares closed higher on 27 May 2026, the S&P/ASX 200 up 0.69% to 8,717.7 after April CPI slowed to 4.2%, undershooting the 4.4% consensus and trimming August RBA hike pricing to 33.7%. Data-centre and AI names led — Megaport +8.63% on a Latitude.sh contract — while ASX Ltd slumped 9.74% on a second day of selling over its FY27 cost and capex guidance.
