ASX 200 set for a firmer open as Wall Street broadens; iron ore and oil drag resources
The S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.13% lower Thursday at 8,686.1 and faces a two-speed open Friday. SPI 200 futures point up 0.6% after the Dow set a record on a rotation out of Broadcom (-12.59%) into financials and healthcare, but iron ore (-1.69% to US$101.96/t) and Brent (-2.82%) renew pressure on BHP.AU, RIO.AU, FMG.AU and the energy names. US May payrolls land tonight.
ASX 200 falls 0.70% to 8,625 as a materials rout meets a health-care rebound
The S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.70% to 8,625.1 on 5 June 2026. Materials dropped 2.31% on iron ore near two-month lows around US$102 a tonne and copper down 1.9%, dragging BHP.AU -2.48% and a broad gold and battery-metals selloff. Health Care rose 3.54% as CSL.AU rebounded 5.75% off its May lows, and eight of eleven sectors finished higher even as the banks and miners pulled the index down.
