ASX 200 set to open near 1% lower on long-weekend catch-up as US chips rebound and mega-caps slip
The S&P/ASX 200 is set to open about 1% lower near 8,539 as it returns from the King's Birthday long weekend and reacts to Friday night's Wall Street selloff. Overnight a semiconductor rebound (Micron +9.87%, Marvell +9.63%) lifted the Nasdaq 0.86%, while mega-cap software fell and the VIX dropped 12% to 18.92. Iron ore eased to US$101/t and gold to US$4,350/oz; Brent firmed to US$94.35 on Middle East tension.
ASX 200 slips 0.24% as a resources rout masks positive breadth
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,604.2 on 9 June 2026, down 0.24%, as a resources selloff led by gold miner Emerald Resources (-9.03%) dragged the heaviest names lower. Uranium and lithium fell 6 to 8%, but REITs, healthcare and staples kept breadth positive at 131 advancers to 103 decliners, and the index recovered most of a 1.56% intraday drop as US futures firmed.
