Wall Street tech selloff and an Iran flashpoint set the ASX up for a softer open, US CPI due tonight
Wall Street's pivot out of mega-cap tech resumed and a late Iran flashpoint dragged the S&P 500 to a 2.3% intraday low before it closed -0.26%. Apple fell 3.64%, the VIX spiked to 23 intraday, and Brent rose 1.04% to US$92.40. The ASX is set for a softer open ahead of tonight's US CPI, tipped at +4.2% year-on-year.
ASX 200 climbs 0.57% to 8,653.3 on a rate-relief retail rotation; Steadfast jumps 36% on a $7.7bn takeover
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,653.3 on 10 June 2026, up 0.57%, as a weak Westpac consumer-sentiment print (80.6) cooled RBA rate-hike bets and drove a rotation into retail, staples and the banks. Steadfast jumped 36.20% on a $7.7bn takeover approach from Amwins and Dragoneer. Gold miners (EVN.AU -5.04%, NST.AU -3.54%) and tech (-2.34%) fell, leaving breadth negative at 115 advancers to 122 decliners.
