ASX 200 faces a soft open as Apple slides 2.1% and US yields climb
Wall Street faded a chip-led rally into Monday's close, with Apple down 2.14% on a margin warning and the US 10-year yield up to 4.598%. The ASX 200, which closed Monday at 8,791.3, opens Tuesday against a soft US lead, with energy supported by Brent near US$89 and Materials still capped by BHP's FY27 copper guidance cut.
ASX 200 finishes flat at 8,793 as gold miners rebound and banks slip
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,793.3 on 21 July 2026, up 2.0 points or 0.02%. Brent fell 0.82% to US$88.49, easing bond yield pressure and sending gold futures 1.49% higher to US$4,075.80/oz, which lifted the gold sub-index 3.64%. Financials fell 0.71% and healthcare 1.05%, cancelling most of the gain. Breadth split 134 advancers to 145 decliners on the ASX 300.
