ASX 200 ends the week down 0.28% as Brent tops US$100 and pulls energy and tech apart
The S&P/ASX 200 finished the week ending 24 July 2026 at 8,772.3, down 0.28%, after attacks on Red Sea shipping pushed Brent crude above US$100 midweek and left it 9.85% higher at US$96.78. Energy rose 6.04% on a cap-weighted basis while technology fell 6.49%, and US 10-year yields added 13.8 basis points to 4.679%. Financials and materials held the index loss to 28 basis points. AU June-quarter CPI and the FOMC decision both land in the week ahead.
