ASX 200 Falls 0.46% to 9,073.2 as NAB and JB Hi-Fi Results Hit Banks and Retailers

The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,073.2 on 17 August 2026, down 42.0 points or 0.46%, a fourth consecutive decline. JBH.AU fell 12.31% after pairing record FY26 sales with July comparable sales of -1.4%, and NAB.AU lost 4.62% on a Q3 update showing home loan applications down 15% on the June quarter. Financials fell 1.76% and Consumer Discretionary 3.00%, against Materials up 1.76% on gold, copper and uranium strength. Breadth finished at 143 advancers to 142 decliners, so the fall came from concentrated losses in the heaviest names.
