ASX 200 ends week +1.03% at 8,806.7 as banks and defensives lead while the Nasdaq falls 4.48%

The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,806.7 on 16 October 2026, up 90.1 points or 1.03% for the week and at its highest close since 10 September. Utilities (+4.47%), health care (+3.88%), staples (+3.35%) and financials (+3.20%) led, while materials fell 2.31% after an 8.06% Kospi slide on Thursday and the Small Ordinaries lost 2.82%. WTC.AU rose 11.83% after ASIC closed its matters; PYC.AU fell 22.04%. The Nasdaq lost 4.48% for the week.
