US Pre-Market 23 July 2026: Futures Lower on Alphabet, Tesla AI-Spend Guidance; Oil Up Over 4%
US index futures point lower into the 23 July 2026 open after Alphabet and Tesla both lifted AI capital-spending plans, sending GOOGL.US down about 4.5% and TSLA.US about 6% pre-market. Oil is up over 4% on Iran and Strait of Hormuz supply risk, energy is the one higher US sector, and the US 10-year yield is at 4.70%.
S&P 500 Falls 1.21% as Tesla Drops 14.52% and Brent Crude Closes Above US$100
The S&P 500 closed at 7,408.30 on 23 July 2026, down 1.21%, after capital-spending plans from Alphabet and Tesla sent Consumer Discretionary down 4.61% and Communication Services down 3.50%. TSLA.US fell 14.52% on an adjusted EPS miss and GOOGL.US 7.13% after quarterly capex doubled to US$44.9 billion. Industrials rose 1.73% and Health Care 1.26% on second-quarter beats. Brent crude closed at US$100.55, up 6.89%, on Red Sea tanker attacks, and Intel traded 8.15% higher after the bell.
