US Pre-Market 28 July 2026: Chip Rout Splits Dow and Nasdaq Futures by 155 Basis Points
A report that China began mass-producing homegrown deep ultraviolet lithography tools drove South Korea’s KOSPI down 10.84% to a circuit breaker, Taiwan’s TAIEX down 4.65% and the Nikkei 225 down 3.95%. US memory and equipment names gapped lower, with Corning down 18.13% on Q3 guidance and Micron down 6.69%. Q2 beats from Unilever, Sherwin-Williams and Coca-Cola carried Dow futures 0.86% higher, opening a 155 basis point spread to Nasdaq 100 futures.
US Markets Close 28 July 2026: Dow Adds 537 Points as China Chip News Sinks Semiconductors
The S&P 500 rose 0.21% to 7,428.78 as a China-driven semiconductor selloff cost the index about 63 basis points and health care, staples and financials covered it. The Dow added 537.24 points to 52,747.32 while the Nasdaq slipped 0.22%. AMKR.US fell 24.74% on soft third-quarter guidance, and SK Hynix closed 14.65% lower in Seoul after ChangXin Memory listed in Shanghai.
