The S&P 500 closed at a record 7,736.52 on 4 August 2026, up 1.79%, with technology up 4.98% accounting for about 165 of the 179 basis point move. PLTR.US rose 29.45% after lifting full-year guidance, the Dow closed above 54,000 for the first time, and WTI crude fell 6.47% to $75.14. AMD.US beat on revenue, earnings and guidance after the close but traded lower after the bell.
