US Pre-Market, 18 August 2026: Fabrinet Guidance Splits AI Hardware From Its Customers
Nasdaq 100 futures traded 1.27% lower at 29,713 at 8:40am ET on 18 August 2026 while Dow futures held at -0.11%, a 116 basis point gap driven by selling across the AI equipment supply chain. Fabrinet FN.US fell 11.21% after guiding to a fiscal Q1 2027 margin squeeze, with COHR.US -6.58%, WDC.US -6.52% and LRCX.US -5.32% following, while their customers MSFT.US +0.38% and AAPL.US +0.56% held. July housing starts fell 12.4% to a 1,239,000 annual rate as permits rose 5.0%, and HD.US gained 2.25% on a $4.92 adjusted EPS beat.
S&P 500 Falls 0.69% as a $3 Trillion Footnote Deepens the AI Hardware Selloff
The S&P 500 fell 0.69% to 7,691.76 in a third straight decline as a Wall Street Journal analysis counted about $3 trillion of off-balance-sheet AI commitments across nine large technology firms. FN.US closed 19.38% lower and took the optical supply chain with it, while memory reversed the prior session rally in full. Healthcare, energy, staples and financials closed higher, and the 30-year Treasury yield eased 3 basis points to 5.28%.
