Quick Check
High volume on a price move suggests:
Volume typically leads price — what does this mean?

Price tells you what happened. tells you how much conviction was behind it. A price move on high volume is a statement; the same move on low volume is a whisper.
The core rule in volume analysis:
A day with 2x+ average volume means something significant happened.
High-Conviction Signal
A selling climax followed by a hammer or bullish engulfing at known is a high-conviction buy signal. Last sellers exhausted, buyers stepping in.
OBV keeps a running total: add today's volume on up days, subtract on down days. The absolute number does not matter. The direction does.
OBV Divergence
Stock rallies $40 to $50 (OBV rising). Pulls back to $45, rallies to $52 (new high). But OBV at $52 is LOWER than at $50. Price made a higher high; OBV made a lower high. Bearish . The uptrend is weakening despite the new price high.
Add a 50-day volume moving average to your chart. Bars above the line = above-average volume. Bars below = below-average. Most platforms colour volume bars green on up days and red on down days.
Key Takeaways
Try This
