ASX faces split handover: Wall St records, Brent +2.1%, gold -0.99% into March CPI week
Wall Street notched fresh records on Friday: S&P 500 7,165.08 (+0.80%), Nasdaq 24,836.60 (+1.63%), led by Intel +23% and Nvidia retaking US$5T market cap. Brent +2.1% to US$101.23 on Strait of Hormuz tightness, gold -0.99% to US$4,693.80. ASX 200 indicates flat from 8,793.4 into a week of Australia's March quarter CPI (Apr 30) plus MSFT, GOOGL and AAPL earnings.
ASX 200 Slips 0.23% to 8,766 as IFM Bids for Atlas Arteria
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,766.4 on Monday 27 April 2026, down 20 points or 0.23%, ending the session lower despite Wall Street's record Friday close. Atlas Arteria (ALX.AU) jumped 13.39% to $4.91 on an IFM takeover bid; Resolute Mining (RSG.AU) was the day's worst at -8.19% to $1.29. Materials and healthcare bid; banks and energy dragged the index.
