ASX 200 tipped to open 0.6% lower as Wall Street's records run into a US holiday — Monday 25 May 2026
The ASX 200 is indicated to open about 0.6% lower after Friday's 8,657 close, even as Wall Street finished at fresh records — the Dow up 0.58% to 50,580. US markets are closed tonight for Memorial Day, thinning global flows, while gold (US$4,523) and iron ore (US$109.67/t) eased and copper (+1.35%) and Brent (US$100.21) firmed. The week's local focus is Wednesday's April inflation indicator and Q1 capex.
ASX 200 +0.4% to 8,692 as gold miners surge and a crude plunge sinks energy — 25 May 2026
Australian shares closed higher Monday, the ASX 200 up 0.40% to 8,692.0, as a 4.93% surge in gold miners and a coal-sector jump outweighed a 2.41% energy slide. Brent crude fell to a two-week low near US$95.43 on US–Iran agreement optimism, sinking oil producers, while a deadly Shanxi coal-mine explosion lifted Whitehaven and Yancoal. Wall Street was shut for US Memorial Day.
