ASX faces a flat open after Wall Street's Nvidia-led record close; Q1 GDP partials due 11:30 AEST
Wall Street closed at a record on 1 June, with the S&P 500 up 0.26% and the Nasdaq up 0.42% on a Nvidia-led tech rally (NVDA +6.26%) and a near-2% energy surge. But S&P futures have since slipped 0.17% and the AUD eased to 0.7164, pointing to a flat-to-soft ASX open. The session focus is domestic: Q1 GDP partials (balance of payments, business indicators) land at 11:30 AEST, the last read before Wednesday headline GDP.
ASX 200 ends flat as a tech surge cancels bank and REIT selling, 2 June 2026
The ASX 200 finished flat at 8,724.4 on 2 June 2026, down 0.06%, as a 5.43% technology rally offset selling in banks, REITs and healthcare. Northern Star NST.AU jumped 13.61% on a reported Elliott stake worth more than $1 billion, while Tasmea and SRG Global led a contractor re-rating and TPG fell 7.50% on an NBN broadband warning.
