ASX set for a sharp higher open as oil tumbles on a US-Iran peace deal
Oil's supply-disruption premium drained over the weekend on a US-Iran peace deal and a reopened Strait of Hormuz, sending Brent down 3.5% and the VIX down 9%. SpaceX's record Nasdaq debut closed up 19.3%, reviving US tech futures. The S&P/ASX 200 is indicated near 8,800, about 2% above Friday's close, with gold miners and tech set to lead and energy the lone drag.
ASX 200 climbs 1.25% to 8,914 as a US-Iran peace deal sinks oil and ignites gold miners
Australian shares rose 1.25% to 8,914 as a weekend US-Iran agreement to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz collapsed crude's risk premium. Energy and coal led losses (Santos -8.43%, Karoon -8.37%) while gold miners surged (Regis +13.33%, Bellevue +13.01%) as cheaper oil revived Fed-easing bets ahead of the 16-17 June FOMC.
