Monday 6 July 2026
ASX 200 set to open 0.4% lower, giving back part of Friday's gold-led rally with Wall Street shut
The S&P/ASX 200 is set to open about 0.4% lower on Monday after Friday's 1.37% climb to 8,844.4, a gold-and-bank-led rally (GMD.AU +16.70%, NST.AU +11.75%, CBA.AU +2.41%). US cash markets were shut for Independence Day, so the last Wall Street print is Thursday's, when a soft US jobs report (57,000 versus about 110,000 expected) sent the Dow to a record but knocked the Nasdaq 0.80% lower on chip selling. Gold near US$4,200 and firmer US futures are the supportive leads; the index is simply giving back part of an outsized Friday move.
ASX 200 eases 0.15% to 8,831 as banks and miners just outweigh a health care and tech rally
A near-flat ASX 200 session in which a $5.6bn Genesis bid for Vault Minerals and a CSL-led health care rally were offset by softer banks and miners, leaving the index down 13 points at 8,831.
