ASX 200 Set to Open 0.75% Lower as Brent Tops US$100 and AI Spending Guidance Hits Wall Street
SPI futures point to the ASX 200 opening 65 points or 0.75% lower. Brent crude rose 6.88% to US$100.54 after Houthi forces attacked two Saudi tankers in the Red Sea, and the S&P 500 fell 1.21% as Tesla dropped 14.52% and Alphabet 7.13% on capital expenditure plans. Gold fell 2.28% and Australian 10 year yields sit at 4.97% after June employment beat forecast by 61,100 jobs.
ASX 200 falls 0.75% as tech unwind follows Tesla and Alphabet rout; banks cushion
The S&P/ASX 200 closed down 0.75% at 8,772.3 on 24 July 2026, as a global unwind in tech and high-growth names followed Wall Street's overnight slide in Tesla and Alphabet. BHP.AU -2.94% and WiseTech WTC.AU -4.64% led the drag, while a big-four bank rally (CBA.AU, NAB.AU, WBC.AU, ANZ.AU up 1.0% to 1.5%) held the loss under a percent. Karoon KAR.AU +10.84% led an energy bid as crude held near US$99.
