ASX 200 to open 0.45% lower on 28 July 2026 as US chip selling offsets Brent's 9.25% slide
The S&P/ASX 200 is called 39 points or 0.45% lower on 28 July 2026 after closing Monday up 1.39% at 8,894.0. Brent settled 9.25% lower at US$87.83 once Washington and Tehran paused strikes, and US chip stocks reversed the technology leg that led Monday's local rally, with SNDK.US down 11.02% and NVDA.US down 4.99%. Gold held at US$4,076.60 an ounce and copper added 1.14%.
ASX 200 reverses to close 0.60% higher at 8,947.8 after Bullock speech
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,947.8 on 28 July 2026, up 53.8 points or 0.60%, after RBA governor Michele Bullock's 1:49pm speech pushed the Australian two-year yield down 6 basis points to 4.61%. The index had traded as low as 8,858.5 before turning to finish at its session high. Financials contributed 31 bps and Health Care 20 bps, against Materials costing 26 bps as gold and lithium names retreated. Viva Energy VEA.AU rose 8.61% on a 9% EBITDA guidance beat, while Korea's KOSPI fell 10.84% in a semiconductor selloff.
