ASX 200 futures point 0.50% lower as a hawkish Fed hold lifts the 30-year yield to a 19-year high
ASX SPI 200 futures closed the overnight session at 8,935.5 on 30 July 2026, down 45 points or 0.50%, after the Federal Reserve held its target range at 3.50% to 3.75% with three dissents in favour of a hike. The 30-year Treasury yield rose 10.5 basis points to 5.201%, its highest since July 2007, while the 2-year fell 4 basis points. The Dow fell 2.19%, its worst session since April 2025, as CAT.US lost 6.91% and GS.US 5.09%. Brent settled 7.9% higher at US$90.74 after the US and Iran exchanged military fire, leaving energy the one sector with a positive overnight lead.
ASX 200 closes 0.78% lower at 8,967.7 as a hawkish Fed hold lifts the US 30-year yield to a 19-year high
The S&P/ASX 200 fell 70.9 points to 8,967.7 on 30 July 2026, down 0.78%, ending a three-day rally worth 3.0%. A 9 to 3 Federal Reserve hold left the US 30-year Treasury yield at a 19-year high of 5.143%. Gold miners led the decline as bullion faded from an overnight spike of US$4,166.80/oz to US$4,090.50 by the close. Only energy and information technology closed higher, and 174 of the 234 stocks swept ended lower.
