Tuesday 4 August 2026
ASX 200 set to open flat as a 4.4% iron ore drop offsets Wall Street's tech-led rally
S&P/ASX 200 futures point to a 3 point open on Tuesday 4 August 2026. Wall Street rallied, with the S&P 500 up 1.48% and the Nasdaq 2.13% on a bid for the largest technology names, but iron ore fell 4.43% to US$93.66 a tonne and crude settled 5.56% lower at US$79.96 after President Trump called off a planned strike on Iran. The local index holds little technology and a great deal of iron ore, which leaves the open flat.
