ASX 200 Set to Open 35 Points Lower on 14 August 2026 as Oil and Gold Fall
SPI futures point the S&P/ASX 200 to open 35 points or 0.4% lower on 14 August 2026, near 9,153, after Brent fell 2.36% to US$86.88 a barrel and spot gold 1.11% to US$4,359.80 an ounce overnight. Wall Street went the other way: a flat July producer price print against a 0.2% consensus rise carried the S&P 500 to a record close of 7,798.99, up 0.65%, with NFLX.US +5.43% and MU.US +4.23% lifting the Nasdaq 0.81%. US 10-year yields eased 4 basis points to 4.641%. RBA Governor Michele Bullock speaks at 09:30 AEST and QBE.AU releases FY26 half-year results the same minute.
ASX 200 Closes Down 0.80% at 9,115.2 as Miners Fall a Third Day and Tech Rallies 2.83%
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,115.2 on 14 August 2026, down 73.3 points or 0.80%, its fifth fall in six sessions. Materials fell 2.58% for a third straight session as BHP.AU lost 3.31% to $61.35, RIO.AU 3.14% and S32.AU 3.45%, handing back most of an eight-day 11% run. Information technology rose 2.83% to its highest since 4 February, with WTC.AU up 5.55% and XRO.AU up 5.54% after WDAY.US gained 17.7% overnight on a takeover report. SEK.AU led the index with a 9.13% gain and SKG.AU fell 8.30% on an FY27 distribution cut. Breadth was 76 advancers to 144 decliners.
