ASX 200 set to open 41 points higher as gold settles at a three-month high and oil rises a sixth day
SPI futures closed 41 points or 0.45% above Friday's 9,058.9 ASX 200 close, pointing to an open near 9,100. Gold settled at a three-month high of US$4,680.60 an ounce as the US dollar index fell 0.83% across the week, and Brent finished at US$94.39 for a sixth straight higher settle. GS.US rose 3.73% and delivered roughly 225 of the Dow's 517.80 point gain, though the S&P 500 still lost 1.43% for the week with the 30-year Treasury yield near a 20-year high. PLS.AU and REH.AU have already reported FY26 results, with EDV.AU, BEN.AU and NHF.AU due through the session.
ASX 200 climbs 0.49% to 9,103.1 as a copper supply shock lifts BHP to a record
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,103.1 on 24 August 2026, up 44.2 points or 0.49%. A copper supply disruption at Zijin's Kamoa-Kakula mine and a weaker US dollar drove Materials to its first record since 17 June, with BHP.AU up 3.01% to an all-time high. Uranium and lithium names ran hard, led by DYL.AU +11.55% and PLS.AU +7.89% on a reinstated dividend. Financials fell 0.72% and breadth finished near even at 123 advancers to 117 decliners.
