ASX 200 set to open 13 points higher as Nvidia's seventh straight fall drags the Nasdaq
SPI futures at 9,054.5 imply a 13 point (0.15%) higher ASX 200 open from Monday's close of 9,103.1. Wall Street split on 24 August 2026, with the Dow up 0.26% and the Nasdaq down 0.76% as NVDA.US fell 2.91% for a seventh straight session before Wednesday's result. Brent lost 2.46% to US$92.07 on the morning WDS.AU reports full-year numbers, while gold near US$4,715/oz supports NST.AU, EVN.AU and CMM.AU. COL.AU and MND.AU also report.
ASX 200 closes 0.68% higher at 9,164.6 as a Suncorp takeover report lifts insurers
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,164.6 on 25 August 2026, up 61.5 points or 0.68%, after a Financial Times report that Tokio Marine had picked Suncorp as its preferred takeover target lifted financials 0.94%. SUN.AU rose 7.97% and IAG.AU 3.83%. EOS.AU led the market at 23.02% on a 283% half-year revenue jump to $168.8 million, while NAN.AU fell 17.12% on a 4% revenue miss. Lithium was the drag, with LTR.AU -8.68% and PLS.AU -6.03% as China carbonate sat near a six-month low.
