ASX 200 set to open 37 points lower as Warsh's inflation warning lifts Fed hike odds and sinks gold 2.9%
The S&P/ASX 200 is indicated 37 points or 0.4% lower from Friday's 9,092.3 close after Fed chair Warsh told Jackson Hole that inflation is too high, moving fed funds futures to about a 50% chance of a September hike. Gold settled 2.9% lower at US$4,529.9 an ounce and Newmont fell 3.26%, landing on an ASX gold sector that closed Friday higher. Brent reopened 1.86% higher at US$89.74. Four ASX 200 constituents trade ex-dividend this morning.
ASX 200 slips 0.18% to 9,076.0 as a hawkish Warsh drives the gold miners down 4.3% and the banks take the other side
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,076.0 on Monday 31 August 2026, down 16.3 points or 0.18%, as Fed chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole message lifted US bond yields and drove the ASX gold sub-index down 4.33%. Financials rose 1.14% and took the other side of the move, with WBC.AU up 1.92% and CBA.AU 1.69%. Silex Systems SLX.AU fell 13.76% to $5.14, the largest fall in the S&P/ASX 300, as COMEX uranium settled below US$90 a pound.
