ASX 200 falls 0.95% to 9,005.9 as BHP's ex-dividend week and a 15-year high in bond yields outweigh a bank rally
The S&P/ASX 200 lost 86.4 points or 0.95% over the week to 4 September 2026 to close at 9,005.9. Materials fell 4.64% as BHP.AU dropped 7.50% through its A$1.38 ex-dividend date and the gold sub-index lost 2.90%, while Financials rose 1.97% as the Australian 10-year yield hit a 15-year high of 5.223% after June quarter GDP beat forecasts. Regis Healthcare REG.AU fell 25.57% on aged care funding and Alpha HPA A4N.AU rose 18.35% on its FY26 result. Markets price a 66% chance of an RBA hike on 29 September.
