ASX 200 futures point 0.2% higher to 8,747 as Nasdaq futures fall 1.17% on calls to slow AI and Brent rises 3% after Oman postpones the Hormuz meeting
S&P/ASX 200 futures settled 0.2% higher at 8,747 for 14 September 2026 after the S&P 500 rose 0.86% to 7,656.98 on in-line August CPI. US index futures reopened lower on Monday morning AEST, Nasdaq 100 futures -1.17% and S&P 500 futures -0.59%, after Anthropic's Dario Amodei called for slowing AI capability gains and Sam Altman ruled out a 2026 OpenAI listing. Brent rose 3.00% to US$107.75 after Oman postponed Monday's Iran-Gulf meeting on Hormuz shipping. HPE.US +12.44% led Friday's gains. The FOMC decides Thursday at 04:00 AEST with a 25 bp hike 85% to 90% priced.
ASX 200 closes 0.10% higher at 8,749.9 as CSL and the banks offset uranium, lithium and Megaport falls while Brent returns above US$107
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,749.9 on 14 September 2026, up 8.7 points or 0.10%, ending four straight falls. Health Care (+1.52%, CSL.AU +2.68%) and Financials (+0.43%) added about 27 bps while Materials (-0.55%), Information Technology (-1.14%) and A-REITs (-0.39%) took about 17 bps away; breadth finished 107 advancers to 108 decliners. SRL.AU fell 15.37% in its first session as an ASX 200 constituent and PDN.AU lost 6.91%, while Brent rose 2.71% to US$107.44 after Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline. KOSPI fell 3.26% on calls to slow AI development ahead of Thursday's Fed decision.
