ASX 200 futures up 31 points as Brent settles 2.91% higher at US$108.75 and the US 10-year closes at 4.996%
S&P/ASX 200 futures were up 31 points, or 0.35%, at 08:26 AEST on 16 September 2026 after Tuesday's 0.88% fall to 8,672.5, with S&P 500 futures 0.03% below their level at the ASX close and copper 1.5% higher. The S&P 500 fell 0.45% to 7,585.73 as the US 10-year yield reached 5.016% before closing at 4.996%. Brent settled 2.91% higher at US$108.75 with Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline shut, and a 25 bp Fed hike is about 92% priced for Thursday at 04:00 AEST.
ASX 200 rises 0.28% to 8,696.5 as energy leads a rebound off Tuesday's three-month low
The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 8,696.5 on 16 September 2026, up 24 points or 0.28%, one day after its lowest close since 12 June. Materials (+1.28%, BHP.AU +1.60%, FMG.AU +1.97%) added about 27 bps and Energy (+2.19%, WDS.AU +2.84%) about 9 bps after Brent settled 2.91% higher at US$108.75 overnight. Financials (-0.37%, CBA.AU -0.63%) took about 12 bps off as Westpac became the last big-four bank to forecast a November RBA hike, to 4.6%. Gold juniors led, PNR.AU +9.30% against NST.AU +0.23%, and 137 of the 250 largest names rose before Thursday’s Federal Reserve decision at 04:00 AEST.
