ASX 200 futures point 0.6% higher as Brent gaps above US$90 on the Sunday reopen
S&P/ASX 200 futures point to a 55-point open, about 0.6% above Friday's 8,796.7 close, after Brent gapped 3.16% to US$90.88 on the Sunday reopen and US futures steadied. Friday's Wall Street session sent the Nasdaq down 1.40% on a semiconductor selloff, and gold at US$4,002.80 sits US$3 above the US$4,000 level after AU gold miners fell more than 4%.
ASX 200 closes flat at 8,791 as energy offsets a technology slide
The S&P/ASX 200 finished at 8,791.3, down 5.4 points or 0.06%, as an average 2.03% gain across energy names offset a 2.49% technology slide that followed the Nasdaq Composite down 1.40% on Friday. South32 rose 4.62% on a June-quarter beat and a US$5.6 billion aluminium sale to Alcoa. EQ Resources jumped 34.09% after Andrew Forrest bought a 16.8% stake.
