US futures higher as Trump calls off Iran strikes and crude drops 6.6%

Sentiment: mixed S&P 500 futures: +0.48%

S&P 500 futures trade at 7,555.25 on 3 August 2026, up 0.48%, after President Trump called off what he described as massive strikes against Iran and said talks with Tehran begin Monday afternoon, sending WTI crude down 6.57% to $79.11. AZN.US is the biggest pre-market mover at -5.95% after the Financial Times reported preliminary merger talks with BMY.US, which trades up 4.21% at $68.05. MU.US -4.14% and SNDK.US -3.75% track a 5.12% drop in South Korea's KOSPI, holding Nasdaq futures to +0.11% against +1.08% for Dow futures.

Overnight drivers

  • WTI -6.57% to $79.11, Brent -5.45% to $83.14. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that negotiations begin Monday afternoon. Iran foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said no negotiations are currently under way.
  • BP.US -3.24%, EQNR.US -3.16%, COP.US -1.78%, XOM.US -1.45%, CVX.US -1.24% as the majors mark to the lower crude strip.
  • UAL.US +2.44%, LUV.US +2.03%, DAL.US +1.53% on the fuel bill, taking the other side of the energy names.
  • KOSPI -5.12% to 6,257.45 after Friday's 17.9% surge. Samsung Electronics closed down 8.76% and SK Hynix 8.79% on foreign profit-taking, and the KOSDAQ tripped a sidecar that halted program trading.
  • US 10-year yield 4.671%, about 7bp below Friday's 4.745% settle, with 10-year note futures up 0.45% confirming the bid.
