ASX 200 set to open 4 points lower as Nvidia's 106% revenue jump lifts Nasdaq futures 1.01%

Sentiment: mixed ASX 200 futures: -0.04%

The S&P/ASX 200 is set to open 4 points lower on 27 August 2026, a SPI call that settled at 06:58 AEST after Wall Street finished flat. NVDA.US reported second-quarter revenue of US$96.2 billion, up 106% from a year ago, and guided to US$108.0 billion for the current quarter, lifting the stock 3.98% after the bell to US$218.01. Nasdaq futures trade 1.01% higher at 29,586.75 at 08:37 AEST, while a firmer annual US PCE reading pushed the 10-year Treasury yield 2.5 basis points to 4.664%.

Overnight drivers

  • NVDA.US posted second-quarter revenue of US$96.2 billion and Data Center revenue of US$89.0 billion, up 117% from a year ago, at a 75.0% gross margin. Third-quarter guidance of US$108.0 billion assumes no China Data Center compute revenue. The stock fell 1.59% to US$209.66 in the regular session, then traded up to US$218.01 after the release.
  • US July PCE rose 0.2% in the month against a 0.1% forecast, with annual rates of 3.7% headline and 3.3% core both above expectations. Pricing moved to roughly a 60% chance the Fed holds next month, from 64% before the release, and the US dollar index added 0.22% to 99.134.
  • Brent fell a third straight session to US$86.54 a barrel, its lowest close since 7 August and 8.3% below its US$94.39 close on 21 August. WTI slipped 0.50% to US$81.82. WDS.AU and STO.AU open against that decline, and QAN.AU reports FY26 numbers today.
  • Gold sat at US$4,661.20 an ounce, up 0.17% and at the top of its three-month range after easing on the PCE release. Iron ore held at US$95.58 a tonne, up 0.19%, ahead of FY26 results from S32.AU and MIN.AU.

Overnight Wall Street

The S&P 500 closed at 7,675.70 on 26 August 2026, down 1.58 points or 0.02%. That is the narrowest daily move since 6 August. Nvidia reported after the bell.

  • S&P 500: 7,675.70 (-0.02%)
  • Nasdaq: 26,130.20 (-0.08%)
  • Dow: 53,463.88 (-0.21%)
  • Russell 2000: 3,005.90 (-0.14%)
  • VIX: 15.21 (-1.55%)

ANET.US gained 5.92%, WDC.US 4.02%, ORCL.US 2.84% and DELL.US 2.73%. Those gains landed in the regular session, before Nvidia reported. LLY.US fell 3.59%, the heaviest drag on the Dow. After the close, CRM.US jumped 12.73% to US$231.80 on its own quarterly numbers, MU.US added 3.75% and MRVL.US 3.61%.

Commodities and FX

Gold traded at US$4,661.20 an ounce on 27 August 2026, up 0.17%, within US$2 of the highest close in three months.

  • Gold: US$4,661.20/oz (+0.17%)
  • Brent: US$86.54 (-0.46%)
  • WTI: US$81.82 (-0.50%)
  • Iron ore 62% Fe: US$95.58/t (+0.19%)

  • AUD/USD: 0.7180 (+0.23%)
  • US 10-year Treasury: 4.664% (+2.5bp)

Brent has given up US$7.85 a barrel since 21 August. That cuts realised prices for WDS.AU and STO.AU and lowers the fuel line for QAN.AU, which reports today. The AUD at 0.7180 sits 0.23% higher despite the firmer US dollar index, because the local July CPI print on Wednesday lifted Australian 10-year yields 5.1 basis points to 5.067%.

What to watch

  • The SPI settled at 9,067.0 at 06:58 AEST, 13.5 points off its session low of 9,053.5 and 109.5 points below its high of 9,176.5, so the 4-point call came out of a 123-point range.
  • QAN.AU consensus sits at net profit of $1,418 million with a 38.9 cent dividend, set against Brent 8.3% below its 21 August close.
  • The ASX 200 closed at its session low of 9,127.8 on Wednesday after trading at 9,216.0 half an hour before the 11:30 AEST CPI release, so today's 11:30 capex print lands at the same point in the session.
