The S&P/ASX 200 closed at 9,010.9 on 7 September 2026, up 5.0 points or 0.06%, with iron ore and energy names covering a 2.60% fall in Information Technology. Ingenia Communities INA.AU rose 14.79% to $4.19 after rejecting a $4.75 per security cash proposal from Warburg Pincus that was conditional on Ingenia dropping its agreed acquisition of Peet PPC.AU, which fell 7.37%. Singapore iron ore futures traded above US$100 a tonne for the first time in seven weeks, and Brent sat on Friday's US$96.28 settle after US strikes on three Iranian tankers over the weekend.

- Materials, +0.42%: worth about 8 bps of the 5.6 bps index move. FMG.AU +3.19%, BHP.AU +1.09% and RIO.AU +0.83% as Singapore iron ore reached US$101.10 intraday, its highest level since 2 July.
- Energy, +1.78%: worth about 8 bps. WHC.AU +7.03%, NHC.AU +4.10%, YAL.AU +3.92% and WDS.AU +1.57% priced Middle East supply risk after Iran said it would declare a restricted maritime zone beyond the Strait of Hormuz.
- Information Technology, -2.60%: worth about -9 bps. XRO.AU -3.94%, TNE.AU -3.89% and WTC.AU -3.79% extended a de-rating that has taken about 11% out of the sector in two weeks, tracking Friday's 162,000 US August payrolls print against a 53,000 consensus.
- Health Care, -0.81%: worth about -6 bps. CSL.AU -0.76%, COH.AU -1.65% and PME.AU -2.86%.
Those four sectors net to roughly +1 bp. Financials at +0.15% on about a third of index weight supplied the other 5 bps, which is the whole 5.6 bps move: CBA.AU +0.70% and NAB.AU +0.48% against MQG.AU -0.81%.
