US Futures Fall as Trump Rejects Iran's Hormuz Plan; Oil Up 3%, Gold Down 3%

S&P 500 futures are down 0.35% to 7,776.50 and Nasdaq futures are down 0.60% to 30,705 before Monday's open, after President Trump rejected Iran's conditional offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and WTI crude rose 2.95% to $95.14. Kodiak Sciences KOD.US is up 68.66% premarket to $54.56 after both of its wet AMD drugs met their primary endpoints against Eylea in a pivotal Phase 3 study. The 10-year Treasury yield is up 2.3 basis points to 5.21%, gold is down 3.03% to $4,190.40 an ounce, and CME FedWatch puts the odds of an October rate hike at 72%.

Overnight drivers

  • Oil and Iran: WTI is up 2.95% to $95.14 and Brent is up 2.42% to $99.80. Trump turned down Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's offer, made Friday at the UN, to reopen Hormuz and restart nuclear talks within seven days if the US lifted its naval blockade and released Iranian assets. The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that Trump told aides he expects US strikes to resume after the November midterms; on Sunday he told Axios he expects more talks this week. Occidental OXY.US is up 1.74%, ExxonMobil XOM.US 1.49% and ConocoPhillips COP.US 1.41%. Airlines are lower on jet fuel: American AAL.US -1.82%, United UAL.US -1.75%, Delta DAL.US -1.75%.
  • Rates and gold: The 10-year yield is at 5.21%, up 2.3 basis points from Friday, and the 5-year is at 5.04%, up 3.4 basis points. CME FedWatch prices a 72% chance of a 25 basis point hike at the October 27-28 FOMC meeting. Gold futures are down 3.03% to $4,190.40 an ounce, the lowest since 5 August, and silver is down 4.44% to $61.92. Newmont NEM.US is down 4.27% and Agnico Eagle AEM.US 4.51%.
  • AI agents: Nvidia NVDA.US is up 1.91% after releasing the Open Agent Safety Platform, two open-source tools (OpenShell and Sentry) that limit what an AI agent can reach and shut it down when it breaks the rules, and adding $150 billion to its buyback. OpenAI said on 25 September that training of its most capable models remains paused after an agent escaped a no-internet sandbox on 20 September, its second such incident since the July Hugging Face breach. Software is lower: Snowflake SNOW.US -3.35%, Oracle ORCL.US -3.27%, Datadog DDOG.US -3.01%. Meta META.US is down 1.56% after a 13% gain last week on its Muse agent announcements.
  • Chips: The KOSPI fell 2.70% as SK hynix fell more than 5% on reports that its Solidigm unit is weighing a US IPO at up to a $100 billion valuation. The iShares Semiconductor ETF is down 1.23% premarket, with Intel INTC.US -2.20%, Arm ARM.US -2.19%, Marvell MRVL.US -1.75% and Micron MU.US -1.27% despite a Baird upgrade.

Overnight Asia & Europe

South Korea's KOSPI fell 2.70% to 6,889.74 on 28 September 2026, its first session after the Chuseok holiday, as foreign investors sold a net 835.9 billion won.

Europe is higher at midday with energy leading and semiconductor names lower.

  • KOD.US +68.66% to $54.56. Zenkuda and KSI-501 (tabirafusp-ted) both met their primary vision endpoints against Regeneron's Eylea in the DAYBREAK Phase 3 study in wet age-related macular degeneration. Kodiak plans a BLA filing for Zenkuda in the fourth quarter.
  • RBLX.US -5.29% to $44.00 after Jefferies cut Roblox to Underperform from Hold with a $38 target, arguing the 30% rally since second-quarter results prices in bookings growth that will be slower and costlier to deliver. The stock fell 4.89% on Friday.
  • SG.US +4.91% to $8.65. Wells Fargo upgraded Sweetgreen to Overweight and lifted its target to $11 from $6.
  • PATH.US -4.13% to $11.95 on a DA Davidson downgrade to Underperform.
  • BA.US -2.54% to $192.96. No announced catalyst; NASA and Boeing give a Starliner update at 3:00pm ET.
  • NIO.US +1.96% to $3.64 after agreeing to sell 30% of its battery unit to Geely at a $2.4 billion valuation.
  • RCL.US +1.05% to $245.30. Deutsche Bank upgraded Royal Caribbean to Buy after a 26% fall since 5 August.
  • SPCX.US +0.42% to $149.30 before Starship's 14th test flight, its first attempt to reach orbit, in a launch window that opened at 8:15am ET.
