US Close 6 October 2026: S&P 500 Closes Above 7,800 for the First Time as CEG.US Jumps 12% on Google Nuclear Deal

The S&P 500 closed at a record 7,818.93 on 6 October 2026, up 44.98 points or 0.58%, its first close above 7,800, as chip leaders and power producers rose and the 10-year Treasury yield eased 4.2 bp to 5.269%. CEG.US gained 12.25% to $300.40 after Google agreed a 20-year deal to buy power from 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity on the PJM grid, backed by more than $4.3 billion of Constellation investment. The Russell 2000 fell 0.59% as health care sold off: XBI.US closed 3.39% lower.
